in JavaOne

Some of the JEDI Masters are attending JavaOne this week – hence, less updates.

Anyway, Scott McNealy just presented JEDI as part of his keynote address yesterday. I was expecting him to call us to the stage but good thing he did not – we couldn’t afford to be famous at this stage of the game. Hahahaha. Just kidding! We were able to get some people interested in JEDI and we can see the support of Sun (US) – they are taking good care of us here. Thanks, Sun folks – both in Pinas and US!

JP and I are now part of an elite group of people – members of a new Sun project for Java. I apologize for not telling you more about this since it is still a bit confidential but expect news to be out some time in the next two weeks.

Photos will follow soon.

A few days to go

Only a few days left before the Jedi diva’s leave for JavaOne. I am curious as to what will happen in SF. I just hope that everyone will enjoy the trip and at the same time, get as much info from developers and Sun engineers on Java technology.

Right now, I am at a loss as to what Java technology to use for fear that some of the technologies might be on its way out (without me having a clue!).

Well, I hope that JavaOne will provide me with an insight as to which Java technologies to explore for my research.

Cya!

Cebu JEDI T3

Hi to all! Finally, natapos na ang JEDI training sa Cebu last Saturday.

As I havetexted JP, we did not completely follow the schedule and guidelines. It seems to me that they are not very keen on having a demo of openoffice etc. Sabi nila they can do it na daw on their own. :)

We spent one whole day on teaching demo-different topics. Around 11 teachers participated. All the topics that they feel they need help onlike threads, streams, polymorphism, etc. were covered. I think that theparticipants are fairly mature in terms of Java.

We also had exercises. We will finalize all the outputs and send them to you.The batch name by the way is OJE-1 (pronounced as oh-jay-one) which is acronym for Outstanding JEDI Educators :) and 1 is for first cebu batch.

I personally want to evaluate the manual, specially the one on datastructures but I might not have enough time. Anyway, here are my general observations:

1. The exercises are limited and not specified properly. Theparticipants have given recommendations on how to properly specifyexercises and problems. :) There might be a tendency to just solve theproblem. OOP concepts should be applied in solving all exercises (after classes have been discussed).

2. There might be a need to make a separate laboratory manual.

Anyway, I have attached one of our class pictures. May meetings and strategic planning yung ibang participants so they were not able tojoin us during the last day. Thanks for bringing JEDI to Cebu.

See you on June 20. :)

Cherry
